Enig Associates, Inc. (“ENIG”) today announced that the European Patent Office (EPO) has granted ENIG’s patent (EP 3084337) covering the company’s HyGUN-2 technology, which focuses on developing small-to-large caliber gun platforms with the ability to propel electromagnetically projectiles to much higher velocities than current state-of-the-art allows.
The national patents include the UK (EP 3084337) and Germany (EP 602014026015.2) and will provide ENIG’s HyGUN-2 technology with broad protection, further strengthening the company’s patent portfolio for (magnetohydrodynamic) electromagnetic launch. Related patents were granted in the U.S. in October 2016 (US 9,476,668) and October 2017 (US 9,784,523), respectively. ENIG anticipates favorable outcomes in other countries, as well, as many patent offices, worldwide, consider the granted status of EPO-related actions to be highly relevant to the decision to grant patents.
“This is a significant and exciting decision by the EPO, and ENIG views this announcement as recognition of ENIG’s important contributions to the area of electromagnetic launch,” said Eric N. Enig, President of ENIG. “These national patent awards in the UK and Germany provide protection for our HyGUN-2 technology, a technology which will provide the U.S. and its NATO allies the ability to address Long Range Precision Fires requirements for the warfighter.”
